Roxio has announced the launch of Creator 2011, a digital media suite which the company claims is the first in the world to allow users to work on 3D projects.
If you want to turn that video of your kid’s birthday party into the next Avatar – maybe on a slightly smaller scale, and with more cakes and jelly – then this is the package for you. It boasts a feature set which encompasses capturing, editing and creating 3D photos and videos, and then sharing them with your nearest and dearest.
Simple 2D photos and home videos can have the 3D wand waved over them to transform into three dimensional content which Roxio claims is “amazing”, no less. And a pair of anaglyph glasses are included in the retail box, so you can enjoy the effects on your monitor even if you have nothing in the way of 3D hardware.
Footage captured from 3D devices such as the dual-lens camcorders which are now coming onto the market can be imported into the suite, with emerging 3D formats supported.
It’s possible to create your own tailored production, including special effects, title pages, transition cuts and so forth, along with adding a sound track. The resultant masterpiece can be output to your 3DTV, or indeed uploaded direct to YouTube.
Steve Shannon, Executive VP of RealD Consumer Electronics, commented: “Today’s digital 3D has forever changed cinema and we share Roxio’s belief that it will also have a dramatic impact on the small screen. We welcome this opportunity to partner with Roxio in fuelling the 3D consumer electronics market by delivering cinema-quality 3D experiences to the home.”
As well as the new 3D features, Roxio Creator contains a full and enhanced complement of video, music, photo and authoring applications. A range of tools to help speed up and simplify video creation and conversion is included, along with the new Roxio Streamer, which turns a home PC into a media server.
The product is out now on the Roxio web store, and will hit retail shelves early in September, priced at £50. The Pro version of the suite weighs in at £70, and is capable of Blu-ray authoring.
