Answering Lifes Call
You must have heard people say that they’re living by the moment. But what does this exactly mean? This does not necessarily entail a lot of spending. While shopping does make your day more special, what sticks to your mind more are those days spent with friends and loved ones. The moments that count are the ones that feed your soul and quench your spirit.
So, stop thinking about tomorrow. Living in the now means appreciating the present instead of clinging to an idealized version of the future. While you can always dream about what you want to be, you can only get there when you make yourself present in the situation you are in. When you’re constantly waiting for the certain dream, you could actually be missing something wonderful that is right in front of you. Likewise, you’re overflowing list of tasks can keep you from savoring today’s pleasures. People often tell themselves they’ll move on to other stuff only when they get the work done. But this often never happens because there’s always something else to do. If you just can’t drop everything, start small. Chances are, nothing catastrophic will happen if you let go of some of your minor chores. And your day will actually feel richer because you can connect with the people who matter most to you.
Learn to stop, look, and listen. When you’re too caught up in the daily grind, you may miss life’s fleeting moments of pure joy. After all, the time you take worrying about the small things, you’ve just missed one of the most beautiful sunsets. Practice being an observer every now and then. When you take a step back just to listen, you’ll see a lot of happiness everywhere. Tucking away a mental image feels like time frozen. In fact this scenario often happens: when someone is talking, you rehearse the story you’re going to inject instead of really taking it all in. Staying in the moment, on the other hand, lets you soak up the joy of what it is.
Live in awe and just wander about. You will find yourself stumbling across something you would have otherwise missed and miss out on the opportunity to be blown away by the situation. Gain eyes for magnificence and develop a certain reverence for the world around you. You actually don’t have to go very far to live in wonder. Approach experiences with a certain child-like innocence. And if you make this a daily practice, you’ll actually find pleasure in just about everything. That is the most awesome way to live.
Happiness is unleashed when you lose yourself in your senses. Give yourself a moment of abandon and focus on the sensations you’ll feel in a given moment. Quiet your busy mind so nothing but sweet pleasure comes. To appreciate life more, you also need to take a step back and see what you have from an objective point of view. While work is important, rest is equally so. You can’t enjoy what you have when you’re too tired to do anything.
