Tools For The Job

The Registry Editor in Windows Vista
Image via Wikipedia

Registry-cleaning programs are getting more and more popular these days, and for good reason. They’re a crucial tool for repairing computers. As a computer repairman, I personally use a registry cleaner in four out of five house calls! There are a lot of different reasons for this, and I’ll tell you the major ones here.

Probably the topmost reason is that I know they enhance the system’s overall performance. Many computers have some errors during start-up or shut down. Not all of them necessarily show up as errors though.

Causes Of Common Errors

One of the most common reasons for these types of errors is uninstalled start-up programs. The computer expects it to be run on start-up but it doesn’t exist anymore. However, the registry still thinks it does and still calls for it. Sometimes it can just be as simple as a wrong file path. A nice easy scan with a registry cleaner will fix these kinds of problems without much trouble, and I usually wipe out those little things before I even start getting to any major problems with a computer.

More Tools

In many scenarios, registry cleaners do not just act just as registry cleaners but also contain many other tools in them. For instance, nearly all registry cleaners contain a missing or broken links verifier. It is a fact that missing links on the computer can increase the boot time, thereby making it sluggish, even though many people are not aware of it. Also in the event that you attempt to open a folder that contains broken link then the computer would be too slow in opening that folder.

This also applies to start-up managers. Although computer geeks would make use of ‘msconfig’, if you do not have a fair idea about it then it may cause great problems for you. Registry cleaners are expert at completing this process and most of them do not even show up the important Windows start-up files so that you do not commit a mistake.

Most registry cleaners also contain a junk file remover tool to remove all the sites, cookies, photos, pictures and many other types of data saved to your computer on different parts of the hard drive. Getting rid of such files would definitely enhance the speed of the computer and show a significant improvement in its performance. Even though Windows has a junk file cleaning tool internally built into it, it is not unfortunately very effective.

Summary

Take all those features into account and you’d be crazy not to have a decent registry-cleaning program on hand to run when you need it. It’s just so convenient, why would you ever want to be without it? It can save you a chunky repair bill, and a great deal of stress.

Create An Informative Website

An informative website is one that provides its visitors with the  information that they come to seek. A secondary benefit is that it can also keep them coming back for more.

There are various Internet marketing strategies that are used in order to make websites not only appear more interesting, but also to draw attention to the site. Successful websites are not only informative, but they use search engine optimization to get them noticed online. SEO websites are more successful online than those that are not optimized.

A website should be more than just an attractive looking site though; it should answer questions for visitors who are drawn to the site. Good webmasters understand the secrets to making a website not only more informative, but easier to find online. There are several important aspects to having a website that is informative and will make visitors want to keep coming back.

Start A Blog

A blog is perhaps one of the easiest ways to keep a website updated with the latest information. A blog can be attached to any website and can be updated regularly with all of the latest information that your visitors will want to know and will make them keep coming back.

Informative Articles

Fresh information should be constantly added to garner attention from the public and answer their questions. They should be search engine optimized too and written so that they lead people who are interested in learning more deeper into your website.

Frequently Asked Questions

A F.A.Q. page should be included as part of all SEO websites. These are the usual questions that people will normally ask about the site that can be answered right away in this type of forum.

Use Video Where Possible

People who have questions like to see them addressed by video on websites nowadays. A great deal of internet marketing today employs the use of videos to pre-empt any questions for visitors easily.

Contact Information

This is also imperative to a good website. Those who want additional information may want to email them you and your response will keep them returning. Most importantly, your website will want to answer the big question which is what the website can do for the visitor. Visitors will want to know why they should use your site and how you can help them.

Conclusion

Internet marketing is more than just about driving prospective  customers to your website. It is also about making sure that you have something to say and have ready answers to the most likely questions in advance for your visitors. Informative websites that answer questions up front will gain more traffic as well as repeat visits from the public.

Five Laptop Upgrades You Can Do Yourself

A woman typing on a laptop

Image via Wikipedia

Foreword By The Editor

Five laptop upgrades you can do yourself are covered in this excellent article by Francua Smith. Most people, even those who are basically familiar with the workings of their tower PC, do not realize how easy it is to keep a laptop in good order. If you are one of those, the following processes will probably help.

Tired Laptop Needs A Tune-Up?

Do you have an aged laptop which you feel is in need of an upgrade? Well, the possibilities for upgrading an existing laptop are, fortunately, quite good. From Bluetooth to wireless adapters, extra RAM to a fresh tough drive, there are many things you can do to upgrade your existing laptop. In this article we will lookat five laptop upgrades you can do very simply yourself, without taking the machine to the manufacturer.

Upgrade Number One

Increase the memory of your laptop. Now, dollar for dollar, increasing your system’s RAM is the most value for money upgrade you can perform. If your Windows Vista is chugging along with a lot of hard disk swapping and slowing down terribly, pump in another 2 GB of RAM and watch what happens. You’ll be amazed at the speed improvement. Head over to Crucial.com to check out some good laptop RAM deals.

Upgrade Number Two

Install a new hard drive. Another favorite improvement can be the laptop tough drive. I used to have a miserable 60 GB tough drive in one of my aged laptops and I can say to you now that in this day of enormous videos and MP3 music, 60 GB is not enough. Do yourself a favor and improve that tough drive to something like 160 GB. The other option is to get an external tough drive (say a 320 GB monster) and then you can forget about running out of tough drive space.

Upgrade Number Three

Arrange Bluetooth connectivity. Bluetooth technology is incorporated in some laptops but not others. For laptops without in-built Bluetooth, you can buy a USB dongle with Bluetooth capability from any good computer shop. This usually comes with some software which allows you to install Bluetooth capability into your laptop. Very important for those you like to synch their Bluetooth enabled mobile phones to their laptop.

Upgrade Number Four

Get a laptop stand. Ok, this is not precisely an upgrade, but I find laptop stands increasingly the favored improvement with the mobile computing crowd. Laptop stands are good for your posture and some of them also allow your laptop to cool better. It’s surely a fine ‘upgrade’ to assume, whether you leave your laptop at home a lot or not. Just plonk the laptop stand on the desk and you’ll be able to enjoy better computing without ruining your posture from then on.

Upgrade Number Five

Invest in an extra battery. If you’re on the road a lot, you should really consider buying an extra battery. In particular, if your laptop runs out of battery juice quickly, a second battery is almost a must. I bought an extra battery for my ThinkPad X61 and I can sit at a cafe typing away for 8 solid hours, without requiring a recharge. Heaven!

Conclusion

Well, now you know about five laptop upgrades you can easily perform yourself. The next time you feel your laptop needs a bit of a tune up, look to the above list and see what components you can upgrade. Sometimes a small upgrade (especially additional RAM) will do wonders for your laptop and overall computing experience. By the way, if you’re interested in learning more about the ins and outs of laptops, you may want to check out my laptop guide.

Studying For Microsoft MCSA Clarified (UK)

Foreword By The Editor

Studying for a Microsoft MCSA is a vital early step for those intending to pursue a career in IT Systems Administration nowadays. It is also a good idea for those already experienced in the area but who want to match their expertise with a formal certificate of recognition. This excellent article by Jason Kendall covers the subject from a UK perspective in a clear and comprehensive way and should be useful reading for anyone interested in this field.

MCSA Training And Courses

If you are ready to get certified at the Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator level of study, amongst the finest methods available are based on CD and DVD ROMs using training that works interactively.  So if you are a professional but are about to formalise your skill set, or are just about to get started, you’ll discover technologically advanced MCSA courses to fit your requirements.

To qualify at the level of MCSA you need to pass four Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) exams. If you’re joining the industry for the first time, the chances are you’ll need to have some coaching before tackling the these. Identify a training company that has a team of advisors who can identify the right way to tackle your goal and who will get you started in the right place.

Training Methods

We’d hazard a guess that you probably enjoy fairly practical work; in other words, you’re a ‘hands-on’ person. Usually, the unfortunate chore of reading reference guides is something you’ll make yourself do if you have to but you really wouldn’t enjoy it. So look for on-screen interactive learning packages if book-based learning really isn’t your style.

Studies in learning psychology have shown that we remember much more when we receive multi-sensorial input, and we take action to use what we’ve learned.

The latest audio-visual interactive programs involving demonstration and virtual labs beat books hands-down. And you’ll actually enjoy doing them. You’ll definitely want a look at some courseware examples from the school that you’re considering. The materials should incorporate expert-led demonstrations, slideshows and fully interactive skills-labs.

Avoid training that is purely online. Always choose CD or DVD based study materials where possible, so you can use them wherever and whenever you want. ISP quality varies, so you don’t want to be totally reliant on a good broadband connection all the time.

Consider Your Needs

Kick out a salesman that just tells you what course you should do without a decent chat to gain understanding of your current abilities and experience level. Always check they have access to a large stable of training programs so they’re able to give you an appropriate solution.

Of course, if you’ve had any relevant previous certification, then you will often be able to begin at a different level to a student who’s starting from scratch. Where this will be your first attempt at studying for an IT examination then you may want to start with a user-skills course first.

The Market For IT Skills

Let’s admit it: There really is no such thing as personal job security now; there’s only market or business security: a company will let anyone go when it meets their business interests.

Where there are growing skills shortages and escalating demand however, we always locate a newly emerging type of market security where, fuelled by conditions of continuous growth, organisations are struggling to hire the influx of staff needed.

The IT skills shortage around the UK is standing at approximately twenty six percent, as reported by a recent e-Skills analysis. This shows that for every four jobs existing around computing, we have only 3 certified professionals to fill that need.

Acquiring full commercial computer qualification is, as a result, a quick route to realise a long-term as well as gratifying line of work. We can’t imagine if a better time or market state of affairs could exist for getting certified in this swiftly expanding and budding industry.

Finding A Position

A service offered by some training providers is a programme of Job Placement assistance. This is designed to steer you into your first IT role. But don’t place too much emphasis on it. It isn’t unusual for training companies to overstate the need. The fact of the matter is, the huge shortage of staff in the United Kingdom is what will make you attractive to employers.

Help and assistance with preparing a CV and getting interviews is sometimes offered (alternatively, check out one of our sites for help). Ensure you bring your CV right up to date straight away. Don’t just wait until you’ve finished your exams!

Getting your CV considered is more than not being regarded at all. A surprising amount of junior positions are offered to trainees (sometimes when they’ve only just got going.) The top companies to help you find a job are most often specialised and independent recruitment consultants. As they will get paid by the employer when they’ve placed you, they’ll work that much harder to get a result.

Various people, apparently, invest a great deal of time on their training course (years sometimes), and then just stop instead of finding the right position. Market yourself. Make an effort to get yourself known. A job isn’t just going to bump into you.

Your Exciting Future

IT has become amongst the most electrifying and revolutionary industries you could be involved with. Being a member of a team working on breakthroughs in technology is to be a part of the massive changes that will impact the whole world for generations to come.

Society largely thinks that the technological revolution we have experienced is lowering its pace. Nothing could be further from the truth. There are huge changes to come, and the internet particularly will be the biggest thing to affect the way we live.

And don’t forget salaries either. The average salary throughout Britain for a typical IT worker is much greater than average salaries nationally. Odds are you’ll bring in a much better deal than you’d expect to earn doing other work.

The need for appropriately qualified IT professionals is assured for a good while yet, due to the continuous growth in IT dependency in commerce and the massive deficiency still present.

5 Ways To Improve Website Visibility

Foreword By The Editor

Improving a website’s visibility is probably one of the most important tasks a site owner needs to do and many also consider it one of the most difficult. However, it needn’t be if you use the correct tools and a systematic approach. Arnulfo Snider, in his article below, spells out some useful guidelines.
Mike Alexander
For all your content needs go to ClipCopy Content Solutions

Search Engine Optimization

SEO starts with solid keyword research and sorting. Too many Search Engine Optimization professionals are impatient and always in a rush to carry out their concepts. That keeps them revising their Search Engine Optimization services efforts and eventual loss of time and traffic. Keyword research for effective SEO results requires a lot of patience and intelligent calculations. Above all you should be using the best possible tools to perform keyword research for strong Search Engine Optimization.

For instance Google Keyword Tool, Google Insight and Google suggestions. You will get the precise number of monthly searches on Google Keyword Tool. Here is what you should do then:

a ) Download them in an excel sheet. b ) Find out your sort of keywords ( that match your website content and products ). c ) Sort them by daily searches.

Original and Optimized Content

SEO-based content writing is the best element on a live webpage. Both, search engine crawlers and human beings love to read original and effective content full of useful information. However, there must be an efficient use of Search Engine Optimization content writing strategies also. Smart and optimized content contains the right balance of  keywords used throughout the content. Generally it should be five to six percent.

a ) Use 2-3 keywords in the entire content. b ) Start the content with the most vital keyword and end it with the same keyword.

Web Page Optimization

A search website crawler reads only the HTML of the web-page and so it must be correctly optimized to lead them to the right areas and content of the internet site. Put the keywords in the meta title and description and add more keywords in the keywords area. Do not forget to use keywords in the H1 to H6 tags too. Alt tags must be placed in any photographs or other graphics wherever possible.

Article Syndication

Write articles and press releases about your website, its goods and services. Submit the article promotional releases to the major press release websites. Don’t forget to leave anchor texts so that readers can come to your website too.

This practice is simple and very effective. It helps the website gets crawled by the search engines within two days which buttresses the natural ranking of the website. If you leave anchor texts for the internal pages as well then you can expect to get your Internet site’s internal pages cached ( known to search engines ). This boosts the website’s presence even more.

Social Bookmarking

It is important to be very actively concerned with social bookmarking activities. Join all of the major Social Bookmarking web sites like Digg and Delicious, for example. Bookmark your own articles and press releases there and make friends and share your bookmarks.

Social bookmarking sites are very well optimized and are cached by search engines everyday. If your website’s content, links etc are bookmarked then you should expect your site to get cached by Google inside twenty four hours too.

Try the above mentioned Search Engine Optimization ideas in your daily Search Engine Optimization work and experience the change in the results for yourself.

Outsourcing: Local Or Otherwise?

Most website owners are faced with the choice of hiring someone local, or using the web to find an outsourced provider. Generally, hiring someone locally will give you the advantage of being able to meet head to head, and hiring someone online will supply options and better pricing. In this article, we’ll be taking a look at the benefits on both sides of this issue.

For a local Search Engine Optimization firm, the first and most critical advantage of hiring someone local is that you are able to personally meet with them when necessary. In a way, you already have some harmoniousness and a connection because you’re both from the same location, and this can have an effect.

Another key benefit of a local Search Engine Optimization firm is that there’s less risk concerned. By meeting with somebody face to face you may be sure they’re not a foreign company that will take your cash and vanish. It’s still possible, but having an address down the street from your office adds a great deal of safety to the process of hiring a Search Engine Optimization firm. A last advantage of working with a local firm is that the communication is generally much stronger in face-to-face business dealings than it is through e-mail or instant messages. For much of the Search Engine Optimization work, email works just fine , except for that added benefit, a local Search Engine Optimization firm might be in a position to understand your wishes in a smarter way.

Advantages of Outsourcing SEO Work

Now that we’ve gone over the benefits of working with a Search Engine Optimization firm that is local, it is time to take a look at why you might wish to consider outsourcing over the Internet. The most notable reason that you may need to outsource is that the number of providers available to you is much greater. Rather than a handful of suppliers in your local area, you have access to many providers over the Internet, giving you a much larger talent base. In this area, there’s really no comparison Outsourcing Search Engine Optimization can actually be the best option if you are looking to choose from a larger pool of providers.

Another primary reason that working with an outsourced Search Engine Optimization firm could be the pricing. Once more, with thousands of suppliers, it’s easy to compare and find the one that has the best services for the best cost. This is a feature that may be difficult to find hereabouts. But with the Net, you can immediately get quotes from a number of providers for your project, or just compare their pre-set packages and find the one that has the services you need at a cost that fits your budget.

It may not always be the best choice, but for the large majority of web site owners, outsourcing is the best option unless you need specific face-to-face meetings or are just more at ease with a corporation that is local. However, hiring an SEO firm over the web is much faster, simpler, cheaper and can be much more ready-made to your individual wants.

Overlooked Traffic

Reaching Aggressive Goals without Monetary Inc...

There is a very efficient, yet often overlooked method of generating inexpensive website traffic and boosting sales online. It is by using affiliate marketing and joint ventures. In a lot of cases it is sometimes better to concentrate on those things that some people often overlook because it can mean taking our share of a lot more free traffic.

Affiliate Programs

Affiliate marketing is relatively easy to understand. We have the option to sell someone else’s service or products and receive a piece of the action or we can ask others to sell our own products and offer them a similar deal. The second option, of course, uses one of the best business practices around: the practice of using ‘leverage’.

The Benefits

Now what are the benefits of affiliate programs and why do they generate cheap website traffic? First of all, if you use the pay-per-sale model of bonuses, you do not spend any money for advertising and traffic generation until the actual sale takes place. You sell first and you pay later. This way you do not have to set up an advertising budget and can start your business at a very low cost (just for setting up your affiliate programs).

Another great advantage of affiliate programs is that we know that our partners will send good qualified traffic to our site. They will be motivated to give us good quality traffic just as much as we want to receive it. This will result in heaps more traffic and more possible sales.

Joint Ventures

The other great thing about affiliate programs is that it allows us to form joint-ventures with lots of other people. This increases our leverage once again, we should try to create as many of these alliances as we possibly can. It will increase our website traffic yet again, and still is a very low cost exercise.

Joint ventures can help you to easily build up valid and high quality links to your web site and consequently attain higher positions in search engine ranking, which in turn is another great source of targeted and cheap website traffic. As you see, affiliate programs can be a good source of cheap website traffic, even though they have been a bit forgotten in the whirlwind of  modern SEO techniques.
