Day One: Preparation
Contents
Welcome
Thank you for your interest in the FAT (Fully Automatic Traffic) system. Within a month from the initial setup, you will start to experience a surge of visitors to your site that will grow into a veritable stampede, provided you follow the instructions in this tutorial exactly as explained.
Is it quick to set up? No, that's why we divide the course into six days (though it can be completed much sooner if you devote your time exclusively to it). Is it real easy to do? That depends on your level of expertise, but for most people, not really. Will you get immediate results? No, it takes about three to four weeks to really get going.
Well, that's the negatives out of the way! Now for the positives. Does it produce quality traffic, in other words, real people who are likely to be interested in your product or service? Absolutely! Because it's a free advertising media generator that allows you to focus your advertising at your target market. Are they likely to arrive in big numbers? That depends on the size of your market, the desirability of your product and the quality of your copywriting but, in relative terms, without question! Does it need a lot of ongoing maintenance? No, hardly any! Does it only work if you recruit lots of people? No, definitely not. It helps, but is not a requirement.
I truly wish you well and hope you put in the necessary effort to set the FAT system up so that it brings the people to your site—but I can't do it for you. The only thing called for is the initial effort in setting the system up but I know that a lot of people will run out of steam after a few days, or possibly never get around to starting. Which is such a pity because, once it's finished, there's so little to do. By the same token, I also know that some will recognize it for what it really is: the Holy Grail of Traffic. And they, my friend, will never look back!
Viruses And Malware
This is an area that needs attention early on because it's a threat
that needs to be prepared for in advance. The FAT system includes the
use of a number of automatic programs, and these are always
prone to abuse by the mentally ill (i.e. virus makers and distributors)
and cheats and criminals (e.g. installers of adware, spyware etc).
It is not a problem you need worry about provided you have adequate
defenses installed. There are many excellent solutions, including some
that are completely free. Refer to the following URL for guidance:

Introduction
In case you need reminding what the FAT system is all about, or if you want to see the syllabus for the tutorial, or you need any other information about it, please click the link below.
Data Storage
On your computer, open a new folder in My Documents and call it 'Fat', or something similar. This is where you will keep all your files as you build your FAT system.
I should add here that all instructions in this course are given on the assumption that your computer's Operating System is MS Windows (95 or later). If you are running some other O/S, then I assume that you have enough technical know-how to interpret the instructions so as to suit your system.
The first file you need is one for storing all important data so that you can quickly access it at any time. Use a spreadsheet or similar program to create a Data Storage File that can hold such information as joining and referral URLs, Page Codes, passwords, etc from the different programs you will be joining. We have already created a very basic one in Microsoft Excel called fat_data.xls that you can use if you have Microsoft Office 2000 (or later) installed. You will need to add more fields for data you want to store but it's a good starting point. One click takes you straight to the joining page of the programs required. We have also put together an HTML version (fat_data.html); you can view and use that one if you wish but you need to understand HTML code otherwise you won't be able to enter data. Both these are available in the zip file called fatfiles.zip.
Download this file into your new Fat folder and unzip it. It also contains two other files, fat.txt and fat.html, but these will be referred to later.
Advertising Copy
Use fat_data.xls also to collect any advertising ideas that come to you, plus snippets of phrases from other advertising campaigns you see that seem appropriate for the FAT system and your own service or product. These will come in handy for creating ads 'on the fly' when joining traffic exchanges etc. If you make this a habit, it will be much easier to vary and spice up your advertising campaigns.
Here are a few phrases and keywords appropriate to the FAT system that may help:
- Get a virtual stampede of website traffic
- Want viewers looking for what you have to offer?
- No cost automatic traffic generation
- Build an ever-increasing flow of traffic
- Fat traffic is made up of real people
- A true 'set-and-forget' traffic machine
- Are your visitors interested in what you have to offer?
- Attract thousands of real visitors to your website
Your FAT Website
One of the reasons you need a website of your own is that you must have somewhere to put your Hit Pages so that you can specify the URL (web address) of each one when linking them to the different traffic exchanges. Another reason is that one of the main 'traffic generators' that drives the program has to be housed somewhere, as do any banners or other adverts that direct traffic to your Target Page.
Most people who want an increase in traffic will already have their own site, of course, (in which case that's the best place to put them) but there are exceptions, such as if you want to promote an 'affiliate page' rather than your own page.
Hosting Requirements
Probably the first consideration, if you don't already own your own website, is whether you want to pay for hosting (which usually means you can also choose your own domain name, amongst other things) or whether to opt for a free service. There are lots of hosting services, both free and paid, available on the Internet. Click here to find a few different types, as well as some portals (specialist searchable directories) of hosting services (e.g. try Free Web Hosting, which you'll find there).
The most important thing to note, whether you already have your own website or not, is that your hosting service must allow you to install and run scripts, especially CGI and Javascript, allow banners and other types of advertisements including popups, and they must be able to cope with the volume of traffic you are going to get. Don't worry if you don't have the technical know-how to install scripts though; everything is explained in simple steps.
If you want to go for a free web hosting service but need help setting it up, go to Bulletin Number 4 of Free Ad Tips. It contains all the help you might want plus valuable advice and a step-by-step guide to joining and using two very good such hosting services.
Create Your Hit Pages
To see an example of a Hit Page, click this link:
Hit Page Template
Open fat.txt in Notepad, or your favorite text editor. You should find it in your Fat folder if you downloaded fatfiles.zip. It is one of the two files I said earlier would be referred to again later. If you have a text editor that can read and edit HTML files (such as NoteTab, which we recommend—there's a Pro version for $20US or a Light version which is free), you can open fat.html instead, which makes things easier. Execute a Save As command and name it hitpage0.html. Do this again but this time call it hitpage1.html, and a third time to give it the name hitpage1a.html. Last of all, make one called hitpage2.html.
All the programs you will need are already included on this template file but most are disabled by being enclosed in Comment tags (sometimes called Remark tags). If you have no understanding of how to use HTML, don't attempt to mess with them; they are just there as a guide as to where to put the various Page Codes you will be incorporating on your Hit Pages and what they should look like. If you do know HTML, you can, if you wish, even use the Hit Page Template as your Data Storage File by including such information within the Remark tags. (Be sure not to include such data in the Hit Pages you create though, otherwise anyone could access your private information!)
Upload Your Hit Pages
These four files should now be uploaded to your site, or in other words, to your hosting service's web server (in a virtual folder with the name 'fat'?). As mentioned earlier, this is so that you will have some URLs to point the various programs at that you'll be joining. The first, hitpage0.html, will be for any programs that don't allow popups. hitpage1.html and hitpage1a.html are for those that allow only one popup. Finally, hitpage2.html is for any that permit two popups.
You'll be revisiting these files on the last day of this 6 day course to enter your own Page Codes but that doesn't need to be done until you're nearly ready to go.
Lastly, make a note of the URLs of these Hit Pages in the data storage file you created, so you have this information to hand for the next stage of setting up your FAT system.
The Next Four Days
The aim of the next few day's activities is to simply join the programs recommended and, for the time being, record the data that you will need to access later, such as the login, referral and surf URLs, passwords, Page Codes etc. This will become boring and frustrating and might even lead you to thinking that you should spread it over a longer period or even put the FAT system on the back burner. This would be a huge mistake. A large percentage of the people who do this never get around to finishing the program setup, which is a huge pity for them because remember, it only has to be done once, so it's worth finishing what you've started.
By the way, if you are already a member of one or more of the programs being recommended, that's fine! Just record the details mentioned above in your fat_data.xls file and incorporate them into your FAT system. The program will augment and multiply the results you get from them just the same as it will for those that you join for the first time.
