The FAT System Tutorial
This is a six day tutorial on how to set up a FAT (Fully Automatic Traffic) system to generate superior website visitors in terms of both quality and numbers. Access is limited to subscribers to Free Ad Tips bulletins, so if you were sent here by someone else and are not yet yourself a subscriber, please complete the form below to sign up now. Updates to the FAT system, as well as many other valuable Internet marketing tips, are sent exclusively to members of this list.

Day Three: Banner Exchanges
Contents
Overview
Traffic Exchanges that swap banner ads (most often, but not always, at a ratio of 2:1) abound on the Internet. The ratio means that they show your banner ad once on another member's site, for every two banners of theirs that you show by means of hits on your Hit Pages. So if you have five banners from different exchanges on a Hit Page, then for every two hits the page gets, five of your banners are shown on other websites all over the Internet. Obviously therefore, your Target Page should be put down as the promotional URL when signing up for these.
There are many more types of banners now in common use on the Internet than there once were and the FAT system allows you to get the most out of them by bringing a number of different kinds into play at once.
Create Your Graphic Banners
You need to have some graphics already online before you join the Banner Exchanges that use them, as some require you to upload one, or link to it, during the registration process. Obviously, these should be promoting your Target Page but it's a good idea to also have one for your FAT system too. We provide such a banner that you can copy. Click here to download it now. (Right-click on it, choose Save Picture As, and save it in your 'Fat' folder with the name fat.gif. Or perhaps you can design a better one.) At the bottom of that page is another FAT banner, very similar to the first. This one is much smaller though, and is for those exchanges that have a size limit for banner ads on their networks.
Concentrate on riveting headlines for your banners rather than fancy graphics. People click on banners for what they promise, not because they look nice; though of course, they need to be eye-catching. Several Banner Exchanges, like BANNERSgoMLM, provide help in setting up adverts (probably a good idea to go to them anyway since their banners of 250x72 pixels are an odd size). You can, of course, use your own graphics program to make your 250x72 and 468x60 ads if you have the expertise, or go to a graphics site that offers free banner templates and banner creation online, such as AdDesigner or QuickBanner.
Upload Your Graphics
Once you have created your graphic banners you need to upload them to your Fat Website, as well as retaining a copy in the 'Fat' folder on your computer. This is so that you can either specify the URL where they can be linked to on the Internet, or upload them to the banner exchange's server directly from your own computer. To upload them to your Fat Website, do exactly as you did on Day One of this tutorial under the heading Upload Your Hit Pages, except that this time you should first open a new virtual folder (called 'images' or something similar) as a subfolder of your 'fat' folder to put them in.
Standard (Horizontal) Banners
To start with, join BANNERSgoMLM by clicking the link at the bottom of this section (at the time of writing they are offering a $15 joining bonus). Next, sign up for 1800Banners, LinkBuddies and the other exchanges shown below (unless you're already a member of any of them). Stick to these graphic banners exchanges for now, otherwise you risk being penalized by those that don't like too much competition. Some exchanges are a bit confusing in that they ask for a URL but don't specify whether they mean your Target Page or the site where your banner can be found. If you can't work it out, assume they mean your Target Page as most of the information you enter can be changed at a later date if there's a problem. Be sure to keep good records of what you've entered though, especially passwords etc, as well as filing all emails received.
Important Note: BANNERSgoMLM require you to download a different Page Code for each page their banner will appear on, so you need to allow for this in your Excel file or find some other way to store three further script codes for use later.
Some allow you to enter more than one Target Page and then rotate the displays for you. In these cases, of course, you'll need a different banner for each URL you're promoting. Don't dilute your efforts by listing a multitude of Target Pages at this stage though. These are the ones where you can also promote your FAT system. Use your FAT system banner and set the target URL to hitpage2.html.
Some send the code to add to your website by email and some require you to copy the code from their websites. As mentioned earlier, using the template makes it easy to slot the code into your Hit Pages, even if you have no knowledge whatever of HTML (you simply fill in the blanks), but don't do this yet. You can do all the codes at once by following the Day 6 advice in this tutorial when you get to it.
Follow the links below one at a time to join these:
Vertical Banners
The first of these is called AdsVert.com. It is different to most similar programs in that the ads are very small but the ratio of views to displays is greater than usual (3:1, meaning you get 3 showings of your ad for every one time that you display the advertising 'bar' containing several ads from the AdsVert.com network).
Remember when wording your ad to abide by the tried and tested principles of advertising. The headline should be the attention-getter. The 3 lines of body text should be the action provoker and be interesting enough to raise people's desire for more information and to take action by clicking on the ad to go to your Target Page.
The next one of these is operated by eBannerTraffic. This one is known as a 'skyscraper' banner so make sure when you get the code that you copy the right one. You have several options with this one too and may choose to make it a text ad, an HTML one (for which an HTML editor is supplied), or a graphic. The choice you make will no doubt depend on your expertise but they do provide basic help.
