Introduction
The FAT system is a free synergic advertising program that attracts an increasing
number of viewers to the webpage or referral URL of your choice without you having to do
anything further once it's set up. What's more, this traffic is made up of real people,
many of whom will already be interested in what you have to offer, perhaps even who are
already in the market for what you are selling. Just set it and forget it and they keep on
coming!
Requirements
If you don't already have a website of your own, getting one is the first
requirement. How to do this and the particular specifications needed, are covered in Bulletin Number 3 of Free
Ad Tips. If you already control the website you want to promote however, that is where you
should install your FAT system.
The only other things required are a little time, commitment and patience. It does take
some time and effort to set up a FAT system properly but, because it is a true set-and-forget
advertising program, there is nothing more to do once it's finished, except maybe tweak it
once in a while.
The FAT Tutorial
This is a step-by-step guide on precisely how to set up your own FAT system. You don't have to
stick to the suggested time scale, of course. For example, you may prefer to set aside one whole
day to complete the job rather than spread it over six. On the other hand, you may choose to
extend it over a longer period. It is entirely up to you but this schedule works well for most
people and we have named each segment of the six day tutorial accordingly. If you want to get
stuck in immediately, use the links below or click the green arrows at the foot of each segment to
move between the 'days'. There is also a Frequently Asked Questions
page if you want more information.
You need to know the terms used for the various components of the FAT system before you are
likely to fully understand their effect on the way it works.
Target Page
This is the ‘place’ online that you decide you want all traffic generated by your
FAT system to go to. Normally, it would be your sales page, or doorway page, or referral page, or
opportunity, or whatever it is that you want to promote and that you want as many real people
as possible to see. You might decide to have more than one Target Page and the system
certainly allows you to do this. However, I would recommend keeping the number down to as few as
possible, at least initially, so that you can clearly see the resulting buildup of traffic. Just
one Target Page is best to start with; you can always add more later.
Page Code
Many Traffic Exchanges, such as those responsible for the banners and popups on this
page, issue a snippet of code to their members that we call a Page Code. It is most often
in the form of a Javascript 'script', each of which is exclusive to individual members of
their network and which those members are required to place in the HTML (the 'language' used to
construct webpages) of the page where they want the banner, or popup, to appear. As an example,
our Page Code for one of the skyscraper banners you can see in the left margin looks like
this:
<center>
<script language="JavaScript">
document.write('<s'+'cript language="JavaScript" src="http://www.ebannertraffic.com/work.php?n=805&size=3&j=1&c=&code='+new
Date().getTime()+'"></s'+'cript>');
</script>
<NOSCRIPT>
<IFRAME SRC="http://www.ebannertraffic.com/work.php?n=805&size=3&c="
width=120
height=606 marginwidth=0 marginheight=0 hspace=0 vspace=0 frameborder=0
scrolling="no">
</IFRAME>
</NOSCRIPT>
</center>
Don't worry if this appears as gobbledy-gook to you. You don't need to understand the script
language—just how to insert it in a web page (and you'll be shown exactly how to do that). They
are sometimes much longer and more complex-looking than the above example (up to a hundred lines
or even more) but they are all simple to install.
Hit Pages
These are special pages that you create using the Hit Page Template. Their sole
purpose is to receive hits from the automatic Traffic Generators, multiply them, and
transfer the resulting traffic to your Target Pages. They utilize a number of Banner
Exchanges and Popup Exchanges to notch up credits that are then used to advertise your Target
Page on the websites of members of all these networks. Your Hit Pages then, are
where your Page Codes appear. To see what a Hit Page looks like click the
link below.
Hit Page Template
This comes in two downloadable versions, a text file (fat.txt) or an HTML file (fat.html),
either of which can be used to create Hit Pages for the FAT system. First you simply follow
the instructions in the tutorial for converting it into the four HTML files required, then you
upload them to your site. On Day 6, you will learn how to replace our Page Codes
with yours, and upload them again.
Data Storage File
This is a file that you create to store vital information so that you can refer to it whenever
necessary. It's best to use a spreadsheet or database program. Alternatively, you can use one of
those that have already been prepared for your use. These are fat_data.xls or fat_data.html.
Traffic Exchanges
In the past, the most insurmountable problem for Traffic Exchanges was that your website
needed a lot of traffic before your ad would be seen by enough people to make it
worthwhile. This was because it could only be shown to half as many people as were already
visiting your site. It defeated the object somewhat if you were trying to build up traffic, since
you needed a good traffic flow already in place for it to work. That problem is now solved because
the FAT system produces all the traffic needed!
It utilizes two basic types of Traffic Exchange to advertise your Target Pages to
Internet users, i.e. Popup Exchanges and Banner Exchanges, and a number of subtypes
of each.
Popups
No, we're not advocating just the old style of full page popups which gained such an unsavory
reputation for being too invasive. These are their modern equivalents and most are really
miniature popups, i.e. small, non-intrusive ads measuring 1/8 or 1/4 page that don’t cover up
everything the viewer was reading and can be closed or moved out of the way easily. The one
exception, which is a full page, is actually a popunder, meaning that it loads
unobtrusively in the background.
Of the two subtypes, the first are sometimes known as drop-in, or slide-in ads, which more or
less sums up how they work. They are impossible to ignore but, because of their small size,
they can only display a tiny advertisement consisting of just a headline. However, due to their
small footprint, plus the fact that they are impervious to most popup killer programs, they are a
very popular and effective alternative to the previously used, but very intrusive, full
page popups that were once so popular.
The second type mentioned above, and sometimes better known as popunder ads, means they open behind
the main window. Most often, site visitors are not even aware of them having loaded until they
close the page they were viewing, which makes them extremely effective. They are also larger than
drop-in ads and therefore offer more scope for the creation of a persuasive advertisement
that encourages the reader to click the link leading to your Target Page. The small ones
are safe from most software designed to block popups.
Banners
Don’t listen to people who try to persuade you that banners don’t work any more. This is
nonsense. Although they no longer have the novelty value they once had, they are a perfectly
legitimate way of getting the word out about whatever it is that you’re promoting. As in all
advertising, the headline is crucial and must be designed to attract clicks; if it
does that, then it works. There are many different types of banner now in common use on the
Internet, such as standard (horizontal) graphic banners, text ad banners, skyscraper (vertical)
banners etc.
The FAT system allows you to get the most out of banners by bringing a variety of subtypes into
play at once. Also, the majority of them allow you to choose the category of viewers to whom your
ad will be exposed. This is a powerful feature because it means your advertising can be targeted
to a particular segment of the population.
Traffic Generators
Some of these programs are really Traffic Exchanges too, but that automatically and
effortlessly expose your Hit Pages to a network of 'virtual viewers'. I use that
description because the quality of 'viewings' is very low due to the fact that they run
automatically. Members of these networks can, and do, ignore most (if not all) of the pages that
get shown. After all, they are people just like you, who are trying to get their own pages
viewed by others but have no incentive whatever to look at anyone else’s. However, the magic
of the FAT system is that 'quality of viewing' simply doesn't matter; your Hit Pages
are designed to do a very specific job and the FAT system works even if nobody ever reads them!
About Advertising
All advertising is, to a greater or lesser degree, an intrusion. However, if you find popups
particularly irritating, or even banners, please rest assured that the ones used in the FAT system
are extremely powerful, and, in the case of one popup (really a popunder) you are
looking at what is probably the most powerful free advertising method currently available
to the Internet entrepreneur. The truth is that they may not be as effective as they once were
(when they had novelty value) but, give them a headline that attracts attention and they will
get your message out. As with any advertising anywhere, the secret is in the numbers
and an attention-grabbing headline. The FAT system, as you will see, supplies the
numbers. And remember, viewers of your ads won't be surfing aimlessly for credits but
will be real people visiting actual websites that they've chosen to go to.
If you are worried about the wisdom of using them on your site, don't be. They will only be
displayed on your Hit Pages, where they will earn you credits that will be used to display your
advertisement on websites owned by many other people. It's Jo Public that matters and she will see
your ad—not the popup or banner (featuring someone else's ad) that is shown on
your Hit Pages.
Downline Building
Important Note: Unlike most other traffic generating systems, it is not necessary to
recruit anyone to make the FAT system work—it will go on sending hordes of genuine people
to your website even if you never do any promoting. That is why downline building is not
included in the six day Fully Automatic Traffic email course.
However, you will get a lot more traffic if you do get other people to
join under you, which is one reason why you are encouraged to remain on our mailing list and
receive Free Ad Tips on completion of this course. Free Ad Tips bulletins are
published approximately every two to four weeks and, as well as offering advice and suggestions
about various methods of free advertising, also keep you informed about any changes to the FAT
system such as updates, improvements etc. They also provide advice on how to get the most out of
it by building downlines as well as news and information about other ways of attracting
quality visitors to your Target Page.
These banners are for your use in promoting the FAT system, should you choose to do so to build
a host of downlines. The Page Code for the one above is shown below. To copy it, place your
mouse pointer in the text box, right click and choose Select All, right click again and
click Copy. You will need to replace the URL with the one pointing at the hitpage1.html
file on your own site, of course.
The top graphic is quite large for a banner ad at 80 kilobytes, but the one below is much
smaller at only 37 KBs. To use the smaller one, copy the Page Code above but replace the
URL and the image filename 'fatbanner-a1.gif' with 'fatbanner-a0.gif'.
